Sustainability is one of today’s key trends and future requirements.  All over the world we are starting to feel the major impacts of climate change. The question is therefore not whether we should act on CO2 emissions and stop the pollution of our water and land.  It is about having the courage and foresight to make the necessary changes and decisions now, to ensure that the water we drink, the air we breathe, the food we eat and the products we consume are safe for our environment, families and the generations to come.

LEADING THE WAY TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE FLEXIBLE PACKAGING

Sustainability is not merely an environmental issue but a comprehensive approach to a better way of doing business and growing together with our customers.  EURO-M sustainability strategy is guiding us towards new era of flexible packaging – the circular economy, together with our customers, partners and other stakeholders.

Recyclability and the use of bio based materials are the features now sought after in sustainable flexible packaging solutions.  We predict that, within five to ten years, these solutions will become so mainstream and quite likely even the only reasonable option, as sustainable packaging will no longer be just an advantage but also a requirement, demanded by brand and EU level legislation.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY INTEGRATED IN OUR OPERATIONS

Our comprehensive approach to sustainability covers the entire value chain of flexible packaging, from the raw materials we use to our operations and to the final products delivered to our customers.  Sustainability in our operations is built on three corner stones: circular economy, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and sustainable sourcing.

MATERIAL EFFICIENCY

At EURO-M, circular economy from operational point of view means elimination of waste and efficient use of resources.  We have set annual targets to reduce the amount of waste generated in our production and to increase the level of recycling.

Material efficiency is an important part of sustainable development and the circular economy.  It means producing the same end result with less raw materials thus increasing the efficiency in the use of natural resources. The efficient use of raw materials plays a key role in decreasing the climate change effects of our industry. Thanks to the product development and the development of our production processes we are able to produce high-quality flexible packaging with optimized film thickness – down gauging – without compromising the required technical features.

Material efficiency in our own production means also the utilization of our own polypropylene production waste to minimize the amount of unutilized material. This material is internally recirculated as raw material for our flexible packaging solutions.

SUSTAINABLE SOURCING

Euro-M is committed sustainability and responsible business practices, which we also expect from our suppliers and business partners.  We require them to comply with all applicable laws and regulations, and to act in accordance with the highest business ethics standards.  We also expect them to respect internationally recognized human and labor rights.  Suppliers should identify their environmental impacts and continuously strive to minimize them.  It is important for us to ensure that the bio based raw materials we use in our production are produced in ethical and environmentally sustainable conditions
